Leadership Opportunities
Local Leadership Opportunities
Delta Tau Delta provides leadership opportunities at the local chapter level as well as nationally. New Members can immediately begin to develop their leadership potential the moment they join the fraternity. New Members are encouraged to participate in committees that interest them. Working in a committee allows a New Member to be peer mentored by an upperclassman who serves in the role of a committee chairman. They will develop communication skills, relationship building, creating and implementing a program or event, and learning what worked and what could have been done differently.
Utilizing University and community resources, the Chapter’s member development program provides opportunities to cultivate their professional development, civic engagement, personal leadership, and health and wellness.
As a New Member becomes an initiated, active member, more leadership opportunities open up. They can take on more responsibility as a committee chairman or run for an elected officer on the Executive Board. These experiences provide members an opportunity to develop the skills they will need in their careers and community.
National Leadership Opportunities
The International Fraternity also has leadership opportunities available to members to further enhance their leadership skills.
Ignite is the Fraternity’s program for emerging leaders, those within their first two years of college. Participants gain an increased understanding of personal and organizational values, increased capacity to lead, and cover the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership.
“The Charge” is the Fraternity’s career/leadership development initiative for upperclassmen nearing graduation. The week-long experience challenges members by participating in tasks that require thinking outside of the box. A personal 5-year strategic plan is developed by members and then reviewed and discussed by an alumnus who is a leader in his own industry. Feedback is given on the plan and an examination on how the Fraternity can help reach those goals.
Developed exclusively for New Member Educators, the New Member Educator Training program provides skills on relationship building, how to manage and facilitate change within an organization, the role of peer mentoring, and how to facilitate a meeting.
PresX is the Fraternity’s chapter president training institute. Required for all chapter presidents, this training provides leadership skills necessary for chapter presidents to be successful in their new roles.
Division Conference and Karnea are further opportunities for members to develop their leadership skills. Programming is devoted to training chapter officers, developing new techniques and strategies, and becoming better officers for their chapter.
